After the Brookings Institution published an urban-policy book detailing innovation trends in major American metropolitan areas, the nonprofit organization realized it needed more than an urban policy book—indeed, it wanted to start a revolution. Brookings hired Melcher Media to reshape the content from the Metropolitan Revolution book into a dynamic, highly visual app that would resonate with a broader audience.

Our team narrowed the project’s focus to seven key stories, which we told through interactive infographics, video interviews with local leaders, and beautiful photos, along with concise, finely crafted text. We also produced a series of animations to bring the revolution’s main themes to colorful life. The Metropolitan Revolution app was released in June 2013 and was featured as New and Noteworthy in the App Store. Melcher Media helped guide Brookings’ social-media strategy during that time and also built the Metropolitan Revolution website, which features highlights from the app and regular updates from the authors.
