Physicist Benedetto Vigna helped design the tiny electronic sensors that power everything from our phones to our game controllers. These sensors can bridge the gap between humans and the external world, and allow us to augment our senses like never before. The technology is ubiquitous, but its role in transforming our culture is often overlooked, so Melcher Media worked with Vigna to create a fun animated film that explains the science behind the sensors. We immersed ourselves in the history of building sensors and then distilled our research into a tight, four-minute script. Our team created a colorful, cartoonish style for the film, inspired by the sensors’ ability to turn everyday people into “superheroes.” The final product brings science alive and introduced Vigna as a speaker for the 2014 Future of StoryTelling summit.
