Designed to have a scrapbook feel with hundreds of behind-the scenes photographs, The Real Real World offers inside access to the making of the show. Its pages offer an in-depth look at each cast member and how they were chosen alongside plenty of unfiltered, gossipy drama and secrets that didn’t air on television. Also included is raw commentary from the directors, camera operators, and producers who lived alongside the cast. There’s even a “Where Are They Now?” section that delves into what the housemates pursued immediately after their time on the show ended.
MTV’s The Real Real World
When the first season of MTV’s The Real World debuted in 1992, it rewrote the rules of what television could be. The first unscripted show of its kind, it brought together a diverse group of young people from across the country to share a SoHo loft in New York City as cameras recorded their every interaction. The show became an instant cultural phenomenon, and today it is widely credited with launching the modern reality television genre. So we were thrilled when MTV approached us to create a book that would chronicle The Real World’s first four seasons, giving fans an intimate look at its storylines, character dramas, and social themes.
A Book That Stops Being Polite and Starts Getting Real
You Could Be the Next Housemate
Because The Real World was so popular, fans of course wanted to know how they could apply to be on the show themselves. We therefore included an application at the back of the book that readers could fill out and send in to MTV to be considered for its fifth season in Miami.
