Jersey Boys: The Story of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons

By David Cote

Published by Broadway Books

In 2007, on the heels of our successful behind-the-scenes book for Wicked, we approached the producers of Jersey Boys—an autobiographical musical about the 1960s singing group the Four Seasons—about similarly translating their smash Broadway show to print. We sought to create a book worthy of one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time—four friends, all under the age of 30, who wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds, and sold 175 million records worldwide.

Oh, What a Book!

As in the show, the book takes its audience through the rise and fall of the Four Seasons, from their beginnings in gritty Newark, New Jersey, to their ascent to chart-topping, world-touring best pals to their rocky breakup. Written by theater journalist David Cote in a narrative-interview style, the book captures the magic and the original excitement of the band’s life and times through all-new interviews with the band members. It also features the show’s libretto; interviews with the show’s writers, director, and cast; and over 200 photos from the band members’ personal collections of rarely seen memorabilia. For anyone who’s ever sung along or danced to “Walk Like a Man” or “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and for those just discovering the timeless sound of the Four Seasons, Jersey Boys is the ultimate keepsake.
