Writer Mark Salisbury details how the members of the film crew embedded themselves on the Formula One grid, shooting against the backdrop of real races and working against the clock to get the right shots in between live events.
F1 The Movie: The Making of the Most Authentic Racing Film of All Time
In 2025, we collaborated with Apple Original Films on the official companion book for F1® The Movie, offering an exclusive look at how one of the most authentic racing films was made. The book is a testament to director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s relentless commitment to accuracy, from building real race cars and training stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris to drive them, to developing new camera techniques that captured high-speed action at 200 miles per hour.
A Race to the Finish
For Gearsheads and Cinephiles
The book is packed with never-before-seen set photography of Formula One cars, paddocks, garages, drivers, uniforms, and the film’s star-studded cast, appealing to gearheads, film nerds, and new F1 fans. To onboard those new to motorsport, we included interstitials that offered readers a crash course on F1 history and its most iconic moments.
An Elegant Package
To give the film’s fictional F1 team a unique identity, aeromotive designer Daniel Simon created a sleek car with an elegant black and gold livery. We documented this design process with renderings from Simon and photos of Mercedes-AMG engineers constructing the vehicle. Inspired by this design, the book also features a matte-black cover with striking gold foil details on both the case and interiors.
